The Morning After Christmas

Twas’ the morning after Christmas, and all through the house, Every creature is stirring, every man, woman, and mouse.

The stockings removed, packed away with care,  The ornaments wrapped by everyone there.

The children run wildly and jump on their beds, High from the sugar gone straight to their heads.

When out in the yard, there was made a great noise, The truck had arrived scooping card board from toys.

Away to the window, kids flew like a flash, Watching the monster gobble up all our trash.

The sun shown bright on our front yard decor, They glistened and gleamed like never before.

The Frosty was smiling, sure never to melt, He looked exactly the way our happy kids felt.

Like nothing would ever spoil their fun, they’d remain happy rain, shine, or sun.

Out in the yard on the left was a shiny red sleigh, a replica of the man who’d come yesterday.

He had nine blinking reindeer pulling him up, Yet he never left the ground, poor man was stuck.

The children all know that elf by his name, The man with the white beard has lots of fame.

Jolly Old Saint Nick known as Santa Clause here, arrives Christmas Eve with his flying reindeer.

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, and Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen,

All blinking in line behind the one loved best, Rudolph and his red nose outshines the rest.

None of them seemed to know that their turn was near, To be unplugged and packed away until next year.

We packed and stacked boxes all through the day, It was hard work putting decorations away.

That’s it, we thought, as the last box was stored, Nothing to hold over their heads anymore.

The kids have their gifts, dogs have their toys, Until the batteries die there’ll be lots of noise.

But it is worth I guess, to see their smiles, And pretend life is perfect for a little while.

Nothing worth having in life comes with ease, Especially big holiday’s like these.

Time to kiss them, and hug them, and turn out the light, ”Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!”
